An interesting alternative to Conventional Small Locos for the Loading of Bulk Material

Vollert Anlagenbau in Weinsberg (Germany), specialized in shunting systems for siding tracks, supplied 2 shunting robots to the French energy supplier Electricité de France (EDF) for their gypsum loading station. This new automatic loading facility charges 2 semi-wagon units with 11 wagons each on two tracks. This efficient and environmentally sound solution supersedes (5 trains) 240 trucks a week. Every year, between 30,000 and 40,000 tons are transported that way from the coal-fired power station in Cordemais to the export terminal in Nantes-St. Nazai.
