Prestressed plate slab
A prestressed plate slab, also called a prestressed floor slab, is a thin floor slab that has the properties of a conventionally reinforced floor.
However, as opposed to conventionally reinforced floors, the reinforcing is prestressed in this case. Due to the prestressing, in prestressed floor slabs both the cross-section and the amount of bending when in use are less than is the case for comparable conventionally reinforced floor slabs and slabs made of mix-in-situ concrete. This means that either thinner floor slabs can be used or wider spans can be covered.
The disadvantage is that special slabs such as balcony slabs or slabs with larger cut-outs or irregular shapes are much more difficult to produce using this procedure. In addition, the requirements placed on the concrete are much higher. These disadvantages limit, with the exception of the span, the possibility of using this type as opposed to conventionally reinforced floor components.
