On the night of Monday, 25 November, two DER 240 shunting locomotives - each weighing around 100 tonnes – hit the road from Weinsberg to South America.

They are designed for operation in a new sustainable shipping terminal of the agricultural group Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in Santos, Brazil, to unload soya and corn from railway wagons. On the Vollert company site two 250 t cranes first loaded the two shunting robots onto heavy cargo trucks. Following to that they were taken to the Neckar port in Heilbronn from where they will be shortly shipped to Antwerp.

Vollert is supplying a total of four shunting robots to ADM. Two smaller machines with a weight of around 44 t each are already in operation since September this year. Along with the DER 240 machines, they will take over the supply and transport of freight trains up to 3,900 t in perfect interaction 24 hours a day.

Since 2011 Vollert has had its own branch in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from where it serves customers and projects throughout South America.
