Brazilian MARNA Pré-fabricados modernises stair production

The Brazilian MARNA Pré-fabricados Group has continuously concentrated on precast element architecture since 2008. The stair production has now been extensively modernized with a VARIOSTEP stair mould 170-17 from Vollert's special product range.

Precast concrete stairs are now also a fixture in Brazil's construction industry. Major cost and quality advantages can be gained in modern residential and industrial construction through the industrial prefabrication and the very short erection and assembly times. The construction specialist MARNA Pré-fabricados has also recognised that. As a pioneer in modern bridge beam constructions in Brazil, the company has also been producing precast concrete elements such as columns, beams and hollow block floors since 2008 in Pinhais. "In modern commercial construction, with industrial halls and warehouses or multi-storey car parks, we are helping to shape the face of Brazil today", says MARNA's Managing Director Guilherme Philippi. "We expanded our production again in 2017 for further large projects. With an extremely variable stair mould we can now also produce concrete stairs in the widest range of variants and dimensions for the most diverse construction projects."

Engineered in Germany, made in Brazil

The VARIOSTEP stair mould comes from Vollert's special shuttering portfolio. What's special about the stair mould is that it was manufactured to the high German quality standards in Brazil. "You could describe it like this: engineered in Germany, made 100% in Brazil. As the engineering partner we supplied the entire construction know-how and permanently supervised the welding and assembly work. In doing so, we used only materials and steel elements that were manufactured exclusively in Brazil", says Wesley Gomes, CEO of Vollert do Brasil.

The construction design of the stair mould is very flexible. Both clockwise and anti-clockwise rotating stairs with up to 17 steps are produced in an upright position. A modular side wall enables stair widths of 950 to 1700 mm to be produced. The tread varies infinitely from 220 - 320 mm and the pitch from 150 - 200 mm, while the step hypotenuse is set by means of a setting gauge. "We can produce very versatile stair configurations and the changeover time, for example for adjusting the stair width to the next construction project, is minimal", says Guilherme Philippi. The step thickness is variable between 100 and 200 mm. A further advantage is that the stairs are produced in the VARIOSTEP stair mould on the stringer side, which ensures fair-faced concrete quality on 3 sides. The steps are manufactured right-angled and thus sharp-edged - a further quality feature of precast stairs. This is important in particular when carpet or ceramic tiles are applied later. The attachment of a stair landing for the bottom or top step is particularly simple thanks to the horizontally movable and height-adjustable steel rear wall and is possible at any step. The movement of the side wall to absorb the concreting pressure is done mechanically by gear wheels and tensioning screws. Opening and closing is thus particularly easy and user-friendly.

Helping to shape Brazil's future with visions

MARNA Pré-fabricados is already using the new precast stairs today in many construction projects. "With the new multifunctional stair mould we can achieve top-class fair-faced concrete surfaces - our customers confirm that. That quality sets us apart from our competitors", says Guilherme Philippi. "At the same time we can manufacture a wide variety of concrete stairs." The company is already working on further large projects and on new ideas too, in order to help shape Brazil's future with modern architecture outside the standards.
